Wow, incredibly lame. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are
suing
Showtime for using “Californication” as the title of the network’s
goofy David Duchovny series. You’d think the Peppers would be more
tolerant considering:
• Tom Petty let them off the hook last year for rewriting his “Last Dance for Mary Jane” as ‘their’ “Dani California.”
• Much of the band’s career is pretty much one mega-lift of various George Clinton-Bootsy Collins jams.
• The word comes from bumper stickers in Oregon in the late 70s and
early 80s that read "Don't Californicate Oregon". Shall Oregon now sue
the Peppers? The winner gets the band’s sock collection?
